Explore the Netherlands’ psychedelia and heavy tales with CIGALE

You can imagine my surprise when I got a mail from ex-members of Sungrazer a couple of days ago. It was presenting a brand new project called CIGALE, coming with a link to their new track “Harvest Begun”, a smooth four minute long sonic dream made of reverb and aerial vocal harmonies. Yep, fantastic things have been happening in the dutch forest lately! I cannot recommend this band enough, so here’s the song for you to give it a spin, the first excerpt off their forthcoming eponymous album, slated for release this March.

The band was formed by Rutger Smeets (guitar and vocals, former Sungrazer), Roel Imfeld, Romy Endeman and Hans Mulders (drums, former Sungrazer). Their first album “Cigale” was entirely recorded and self-produced by the band in their home studio at the heart of the dutch forest.

Who else better than the band themselves to describe this beautiful music of theirs: “Cigale combines psychedelic sounds with vocal harmonies, heavy outbursts with relaxing soundscapes, varying between very laidback songs that could never be considered stoner and parts of songs that just cannot hide the interest in the heaviness that characterizes the stonerstyle. Always from and straight to the heart. Cigale’s goal is to take their audience on a trip into their own minds and then maybe add a little inspiration to let them wander off into new, undiscovered worlds.
